Old Man's cave is a relatively easy jaunt. Once the tricky gate is opened, it is almost entirely walking passageway. There are several side passages that can be briefly explored. Some crawling is required there, and a couple narrow vertical passages are difficult, but easily bypassed.(sometimes not even noticed) There is one area that would provide a tricky climb, but wooden ladders have been placed so that it is a simple matter to go down and back up the other side.
The cave is obviously "breathing." When you get to the back of the cave you can feel a distinct breeze. If you climb up near the ceiling you can find the hole the breeze comes in through. It is far to narrow for a person to go through, but one is forced to assume that for a packrat this cave could become a through trip. |
